"...The most successful group of Respighi’s main orchestral compositions need no introduction, from the three symphonic poems in a Roman setting to Gli Uccelli (The Byrds) and the three suites of the Ancient Airs and Dances for Lute - but the same cannot be said of another group of compositions, which can be ascribed to the period immediately following the Maestro’s youthful apprenticeship and are contemporary with his first international success.
