This
entire CD was recorded on the 1827 Jakesch Forte-piano in the collection of
the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies in San Jose, California. The
featured work is Beethoven's own piano version of Wellingtons Seig, Hess 97.
Included in the CD is a march from the Ruins of Athens. Also included in this
CD are performances of two sets of variations that Beethoven, wrote on: God
Save the King, WoO 78 and Rule Britannia, WoO 79. Of the 12 works on this CD
7 are world premiere recordings.
This is a collection of rare gems by some famous,
and some not so famous, composers of the Classical period. It contains the
first recording of 12 Ecosaises, WoO 16 published under Beethoven's name that
had been lost for nearly two centuries. Other works include an Adagio by Steibelt,
a Rondo by Diabelli and a marvelous two movement Sonata by Dussek. There are
works by Haydn, Albrechtsberger and Neefe, who were all teachers of Beethoven.
A
collection of Beethoven's rare works in dance form. Five sets of Dances: WoO
10, WoO 11, WoO 13, WoO 14 and WoO 15; two German Dances, Hess 67 and a German
Waltz, Hess 68; two Minuets from the Biamonti catalog, Nos. 66 and 74 and lastly
an uncatalogued "Little Minuet" from the Kafka Sketchbook. Dance sets WoO 13
and WoO 15 together with the two Biamonti numbers and the uncatalogued "Little
Minuet" are all world premiere recordings.
Thirty-Five
Works, some never recorded before, showcases Beethoven's ability to create jewels
out of seemingly insignificant little musical ideas. Eight pieces are without
catalog numbers and include the never before recorded 1822 revised version of
the famous "Fur Elise." Recorded here for the first time is a piece known by
it's 19th century title, Letzter musikalischer gedanke, WoO 62 or Last Musical
Thought which was written by Beethoven on his deathbed as a String Quintet movement
and survives only in a piano version by Anton Diabelli.
Recording of some rare piano music
by Beethoven: The piano version of the Ritterballett, Hess 89 and Twelve Minuets,
Hess 101 in world premiere recordings together with the rarely recorded set
of Twelve German Dances, Hess 100. This CD is the first of two CDs that explores
the largely neglected area of Beethoven's dance music for piano.
This
remarkable work is Beethoven's own transcription of the Ballet: The Creatures
of Prometheus for piano solo. Beethoven wrote the ballet in 1801 and within
a few months of the completion of the full score he set about transcribing it
for solo piano. The piano version actually appeared in print three years before
the full score.
